We had a very successful eye awareness day on the 31st of October 2024, where we teamed up with the South African Library for the Blind. Our Executive mayor Kagisho Sonyoni alongside some of or councilors as well as other sighted participants, participated in a white cane walk, where we gave them goggles that simulated the various eye conditions such as, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retina pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy, severe cataracts and total blindness.

It was such an amazing experience and humbling for those who participated, saying that they have a newfound respect for people with visual impairment. They experienced walking on a pavement with the dangers of potholes and traffic. It will definitely be tough topping this event next year!
